The radical feminist organization, New York Radical Women, leaped into action during the January 15th, Jeannette Rankin Women's Peace Brigade in Washington, D.C.  The march’s name came from the first woman ever elected to Congress, a pacifist, who served as Representative to Congress for the State of Montana in 1916, and again in 1940.

Although the main purpose of the march was to oppose the Vietnam War, the New York Radical Women used the opportunity to inject their own agenda into the movement for feminism and women's rights.

Their main banner:  "End the War in Vietnam and the Social Crisis at Home" said it all!

Fifty years ago, a group of women convened in New York with one clear goal: Dismantle the patriarchy. Their struggle feels all too contemporary.
